Training diagram

Diagram of the exercise “Mirror Me in Pairs”10 × 6 m · 1 × Attacker · 1 × DefenderLM

Legend

  • Attacker
  • Defender
  • Run without ball
  • Cone

A simple coordination and reaction game that needs no ball and no explanation. The follower must read the leader's body and react, which is also the base of 1v1 defending. Change leader every 30 seconds.

Objective

Improve coordination, footwork and reaction by copying a partner's movements.

Organisation

  • Pairs face each other, 3 m apart, each in a 10 × 3 m channel marked with cones.

How it works

  1. The leader moves inside the channel: side steps, crossover steps, jumps, sudden stops, touching the ground.
  2. The follower copies as quickly as possible.
  3. 30 seconds, swap roles; 6 rounds.

Coaching points

  • Stay on the balls of your feet, knees bent.
  • Watch the leader's hips, not the feet.
  • Leader: change rhythm and direction to surprise.

Progressions

  • The follower must arrive at the cone the leader touches first.
  • Add a ball each: both dribble while mirroring.

Regressions

  • Only side steps, slower rhythm.

Variations

  • Shadow version: the follower stands behind the leader.

Key principles

  • Read the body, react fast.
