The pitch is short so every attack can end in a cross. Strikers practise near- and far-post runs and finishing with feet and head; defenders practise marking goal-side while watching the ball. Crossers play for the team in possession.
Objective
Attack and defend crosses in a 2v2 inside the box.
Organisation
- Pitch of 30 × 25 m with two goals and goalkeepers. Two neutral crossers, one on each sideline. Two pairs.
How it works
- Inside players may score directly, but a goal from a cross counts double.
- Crossers have two touches.
- Games of 2 minutes; rotate crossers and pairs.
Coaching points
- Attackers: split, one near post, one far post.
- Arrive late and at speed.
- Defenders: goal-side of your attacker, see man and ball.
Progressions
- Only goals from crosses count.
Regressions
- Crossers throw the ball in for younger players.
Variations
- Add a third pair waiting for the winners.
Key principles
- Split the posts, attack the ball.
