Strikers often receive with their back to goal and have a split second to turn and shoot. The second ball trains the reaction after the first shot — many goals are scored by the player who follows up. Two shots in a few seconds make this short, intense and very realistic.

Objective

Receive with back to goal, turn quickly to shoot, and react immediately to a second ball.

Organisation

  • Full-size goal with goalkeeper. Mannequin 11 m from goal (a defender's position).
  • Server 1 on the central cone 20 m out; server 2 on the side at the edge of the box.
  • Strikers queue behind server 1.

How it works

  1. Server 1 passes into the striker, who is in front of the mannequin with back to goal.
  2. The striker turns around the mannequin with the first touch and shoots within two touches.
  3. Immediately after the shot, server 2 plays a pass into the box.
  4. The striker reacts and finishes the second ball first time.
  5. Striker becomes server 2, server 2 becomes server 1, server 1 joins the queue.

Coaching points

  • Check your shoulder before the ball arrives to see the mannequin and goal.
  • Open your body and turn with the first touch; don't stop the ball dead.
  • Shoot early: low and hard across the goalkeeper.
  • After the shot, don't watch — get ready for the second ball.

Progressions

  • Replace the mannequin with a passive, then active defender.
  • Second ball in the air (volley or header).

Regressions

  • Striker starts facing sideways (half-turned).
  • Remove the mannequin.

Variations

  • Two strikers: one lays off to the other, who shoots; both attack the rebound.

Key principles

  • Turn with the first touch.
  • Shoot early.
  • Follow every shot.
