Starting from different angles creates a race: if the attacker is quick and direct, a shot is possible before the defender arrives; if not, it becomes a real 1v1. Defenders learn to approach on a curve to show the attacker away from goal.
Objective
Attack the goal directly and finish before the defender closes; defend by curving the run to force the attacker wide.
Organisation
- 25 × 30 m in front of a goal with a goalkeeper. Two start cones at the far corners, 22 m from goal.
- Attackers with balls at one cone; defenders at the other.
How it works
- The attacker starts; the defender starts at the first touch.
- 6 seconds to shoot.
- Swap sides after 6 duels so players attack from both angles.
Coaching points
- Attacker: first touch forward on the diagonal, look for the early shot.
- Defender: curved run to arrive between the ball and the centre of the goal.
- Close the last metres with short steps, side-on.
Progressions
- Defender starts with a 1 m advantage.
- Attacker must finish in 4 seconds.
Regressions
- Attacker starts with a 2 m advantage.
Variations
- Add a second attacker from the defender's side (2v1).
Key principles
- Attack directly, defend on a curve.
