- Goal
Strikers often receive with their back to goal. This duel trains both sides: the striker protects the ball, feels the defender and turns when the defender commits; the centre-back stays tight but does not dive in, preventing the turn. Real finishing pressure with a goalkeeper.
Objective
Protect the ball with your back to goal and turn to finish; defend without letting the striker turn.
Organisation
- 20 × 25 m in front of a goal with a goalkeeper.
- Striker 14 m from goal with a defender behind; a server 10 m further back with balls.
How it works
- The server passes into the striker. The duel is live on the first touch.
- The striker has 6 seconds to shoot.
- If the defender wins the ball, they score by passing back to the server. Rotate after 4 duels.
Coaching points
- Striker: arm out to feel the defender, receive on the foot further from them.
- Turn to the side the defender is not on; if they press tight, roll them.
- Defender: stay close and goal-side, see the ball, do not lunge from behind.
Progressions
- Server plays bouncing balls.
- Add a supporting midfielder for a lay-off option (2v1 + then turn).
Regressions
- The defender is passive until the striker's first touch.
Variations
- Start from a long pass into the chest of the striker.
Key principles
- Feel, protect, turn.
