A save is only half the job: quick, accurate distribution starts the attack. The goalkeeper practises the three main distributions and chooses the right one for the distance. Targets move inside their boxes, so the ball must arrive to the correct side.
Objective
Distribute accurately with rolled throws, overarm throws and kicks to the right target.
Organisation
- Goal and goalkeeper; three 6 × 6 m boxes: two wide at 12–15 m (full-backs) and one central at 30 m.
- A player in each box; spare balls in the goal.
How it works
- Rolled throw to a wide box, overarm throw to the other wide box, drop-kick or goal kick to the far box.
- Each target receives and passes back on the ground.
- 3 rounds of 9 distributions; one point per ball received inside the box without leaving it.
Coaching points
- Rolled throw: step towards the target and release low, like bowling.
- Overarm: side-on, arm straight, follow through towards the target.
- Kicks: non-kicking foot beside the ball, eyes on the ball at contact.
Progressions
- Targets call for the ball and the goalkeeper must choose the free one.
- Add a defender who marks one target.
Regressions
- Bigger boxes and shorter distances.
Variations
- After a save from the coach, distribute within 3 seconds.
Key principles
- Accurate first, then fast.
