Linking the rondo to a goal gives the defenders a reward for winning the ball and makes the transition real for everyone. The pair who recovers must leave the grid quickly and finish; the four who lost it learn to react at once instead of stopping.
Objective
Counter-attack quickly after winning the ball in a rondo, and counter-press after losing it.
Organisation
- Grid of 15 × 13 m, 17 m from a goal with a goalkeeper. Four attackers on the sides, two defenders inside.
How it works
- Normal 4v2 rondo with two touches.
- If the defenders win the ball, they dribble or pass out of the grid and attack the goal (6 seconds); the attackers chase.
- Then two new defenders. 4 × 3 minutes.
Coaching points
- Defenders: first touch after winning the ball goes out of the grid, towards goal.
- Attackers: the nearest two chase straight away; the others cut the passing lane.
- Finish quickly, before the chasers arrive.
Progressions
- Attackers score if they win the ball back before the shot.
Regressions
- Defenders have 10 seconds to score.
Variations
- Add a second goal to the other side of the grid.
Key principles
- Win it and go, lose it and react.
