- Goal
Many young players pass when they should shoot. In this short, wide pitch every player is always within shooting range, and the double-goal rule rewards players who dare to shoot from distance. Attackers learn to follow shots for rebounds and goalkeepers get a busy workout.
Objective
Encourage early, confident shooting, following up for rebounds, and quick reactions in front of goal.
Organisation
- 30 × 25 m pitch with a goal (5 × 2 m or full size for older groups) and goalkeeper at each end.
- Halfway line marked with cones.
- Two teams of four; spare balls in each goal.
How it works
- Normal 4v4 with goalkeepers.
- A goal scored from inside your own half counts double.
- Goals from rebounds count double.
- Goalkeepers restart quickly with a spare ball from the goal after a save or goal.
- 4 × 4 minutes.
Coaching points
- If you can see the goal, shoot.
- Set up the shot with your first touch — out of your feet, towards the goal.
- Strike through the middle of the ball and keep it low.
- Always follow the shot: two players attack the rebound.
- Defenders: block the shot line, don't dive in.
Progressions
- Two-touch limit.
- Only first-time shots count double.
Regressions
- Bigger goals.
- A neutral player who always plays with the team in possession.
Variations
- 5v5 with a middle zone where nobody can stay, forcing long shots.
Key principles
- Shoot early.
- Follow up.
- Low and hard.
