With three defenders the rondo stops being comfortable: the outside players must move along the line to open passing angles, and defenders work as a unit to close the middle. Short series raise the intensity at the end of the warm-up.

Objective

Raise the intensity before the main part with quick circulation and coordinated pressing.

Organisation

  • Square of 20 × 20 m. Six outside players (one or two per side), three defenders inside in bibs.

How it works

  1. Outside players keep possession, two touches.
  2. The three defenders swap with three outside players every 90 seconds.
  3. 4 × 90 seconds.

Coaching points

  • Outside: move along the line to stay visible; receive half-turned.
  • Look for the pass through the middle that splits two defenders.
  • Defenders: one presses, two close the passing lanes behind.

Progressions

  • One-touch.
  • Defenders score a point by winning the ball and passing out of the square.

Regressions

  • Bigger square (25 × 25 m) or 6v2.

Variations

  • Ten passes in a row = point; a split pass between two defenders = two points.

Key principles

  • Angles outside, compact inside.
